Study of Magnolia Flower

While looking into old photo files today, I came across a few hundred images from 2006 that I took while on a trip to the east coast.  I had completely forgotten about these images, spent several hours going through them and was surprised that none had made it to these pages.

Taken with my old Canon PowerShot SD450, a little workhorse of a camera that I never should have parted with, I love the gentle muzziness of the images - not quite sharp yet not quite out of focus.

It's funny how my standards for photography have changed over the years.  I've gone from knowing nothing and being lucky, to knowing a little more, still lucky at times, and being a bit more fearless about it all. And throughout all that, I've striven for the sharp, clear image.  Now that I see these anew, I think less sharp, and less clear have their place, and I'm happy to give it to them.

February Waxing Moon

Today I'm celebrating my first decent moon shot.

I have often coveted the moon shots of others, wondering how do they do that?

My new mantra:  Use your big girl camera and a tripod, Dummy!

This photo brought to you by my big girl camera: Canon Rebel XSi. Big for me anyway.

May in My Garden - Band-tailed Pigeon

Band-tailed pigeons have discovered the tidbits of grain and corn that my messy chickens leave all over their yard. There were eight of them in the chicken pen this morning getting breakfast.  A rather cool way to keep the mess down, I think.  Band-tails live in our area, but I've not seen near as many as have been here this spring. The word gets out when there's free food. I like their company. They have a soft coo, much like doves, which is very relaxing to listen to.
I took this photo with my new Canon Rebel XSi, using a 55-250 mm telephoto lens, from about 200 feet away. Not bad for a first shot.

Garden Notes:Tomatoes and peppers are finally in the ground in the greenhouse. Today the sun is shining and it's actually warm.

Happy Gardening!

April in the Garden - White Clematis with Red Maple

On a recent, rare sunny afternoon, shadows were dancing with the stamens of this clematis.

This isn't the best of photos, but I've got a new camera and am just learning how to use it.  It takes a while to get used to the new settings and adjustments. This is a more glorified point-and-shoot than my older Canon digital elph and a bit more intricate to use so bear with me while I figure it out.  My other new camera, now, is a dslr Canon Rebel XSi. And that is a rather daunting piece of equipment. Bit of a steep learning curve, I'm thinking. Still, when I master it I'm hoping for better and better quality photos.

I'm off (again) for the weekend so don't worry if comments don't show up right away.  I'll get them up on Sunday.

Have a great weekend.  Happy gardening!
