In the Greenhouse, March 2010 - Early Nasturtium

I thought it would be nice to share some summer color, albeit a little early.
My greenhouse gets very little sun these days due to the mostly constant cloud cover, but it's still warm enough in there to invite this volunteer nasturtium to bloom. I'm tempted to plant tomatoes ...

Gardener's Notes:
The swallows returned yesterday! Every year they arrive a few days earlier than the previous one. I worry about that.

Two species will nest this summer under the eaves of our house and barn: the violet-green, and the barn swallow.

That is a pretty flower. I can't really remember how many times I have been burned planting things early but it doesn't stop me. I say go for the Tomatoes.

Today we had off and on again sun, Sylvie. But rain is forecast for the rest of the week.

I agree about not skipping Spring, Joy. Our spring is so fleeting, I'd never want to miss it. :)

Hi Chris. Thanks for stopping by. Today it was positively hot in the greenhouse, for a time at least. Yeah, I think tomato plants are in my near future.

Christine,
I love this color too. This color is looks warm.

You have a greenhouse too. Is it big one? We have rain or cloudy day almost everyday, but I got something new. I want to show you.^^

I just love nasturtiums and the way that their bright colors brighten up a winter's day, don't you?

Hello Makiko. Yes, I love the color of nasturtiums - they're edible too! Good in salads.

I have a rather large greenhouse, 16 feet by 24 feet. I grow vegetables that need more heat than our weather here provides - tomatoes, cucumbers, some squashes.

I'm curious now about what you want to show me. :)

I agree Noelle. I was surprised and glad when one popped up in the greenhouse.
