Shy Flowering Dogwood
Pin It
This is a sample bloom from those in a row of magnificent young dogwood, located behind the block of buildings just east of the Arcata Plaza. Undoubtedly being missed by many a dogwood lover, I'm giving away their hiding place.

Tulip In Morning Sun
Pin It
I took this shot in early morning, just as the sun was coming out from behind the trees. The shadow patterns are from the petals on the opposite side of the tulip.

Majestic Cherry Trees Of Trinidad
Pin It
If you're lucky enough to take a walk through Trinidad right now, you will see small, tidy houses (some historic) set on quiet streets lined with these Kwanzan flowering cherry trees. Double-blossomed and in full bloom for the next few weeks, they are spectacular. Especially against a clear blue sky.

In The Pink

For the life of me I can't remember the name of this flowering shrub. If anyone has a clue, will you help me out?
It grows along side an old road cut between our house and studio and has a variegated variety growing next to it with paler pink blossoms.
It will be covered with blossoms and bees until the end of May.
I'm sure the name will come to me - most likely in the middle of the night.

Iris Douglasiana
Pin It
The beautiful, native Iris douglasiana, or Douglas Iris, is in full bloom on the north coast. And, as it happens, in my garden. Lucky me!

A Sweet Pea Of A Wisteria
Pin It
"It's my favorite." I'm sure I say this about every flower that opens in my garden. Truth be told, they're all my favorites; some more than others. This is one of the "more" variety.

Early Spring Clematis
Pin It
Clematis Apple Blossom "armandii" intertwines with my equally apple blossom-like pink rose, which is not yet in bloom, just on the other side of my office window. This time of year I look out through a peaceful tangle of green and pink.

Snails In Shade
Pin It
The only shady spot in this garden bed was on the north side of a post. I never thought of snails as being clever. Actually, I still don't.

Angelique
Pin It
A sturdy little tulip, Angelique blooms every year, even when I think she won't and am not waiting for her to appear. And every year she loses a bit more of her pink coloring, becoming whiter and whiter, until now all that's left of her spectacular pink-ness resides in her heart.

Kiss The Sky
Pin It
Spring, Winter. Winter, Spring. The weather can't seem to make up its mind. Today the sky began gray and now it's blue. One day rain, the next day sun, the next day rain. Only the daffodils are undaunted.
