February in the Garden - Winterbells (Correa 'Alba')

Correa 'alba', White Correa, Winterbell, is in full bloom right now; one of the few winter-blooming shrubs in my garden. She's rather camera shy, preferring to stay out of the limelight and blend in with the background. I think I've caught her with her guard down.

Native to Australia, click here for more information on the species.

Oh, lovely, and just what my eyes need on this bleak day in Wisconsin.

She is just lovely. I am partial to bell-shaped flowers. The flower looks somewhat like the flowers from the Eremophila species, which is also from Australia.

Hi Mimi, I'm so glad I've helped alleviate your winter blues, if even for a moment. Our weather here has been really gloomy for most of the winter, although this morning I saw a rainbow and blue sky. A magic moment!

I'm so glad you like my shy little bells, Noelle.

Such a pretty little flower...you are fortunate to have blooms in your garden. In VA we have 2 feet of snow that we're digging out from under. It will be wonderful to finally see spring;-)

What a lovely haiku, Mystical. Thank you.

Hi Jan. Spring can't arrive too soon this year. I'm finished with rain and cold. Even though I know that some parts of the country/planet need it badly.

This is my first time to see these flowers.
I really want to see the buds of this flower.

I'm glad you were able to take a photo of her for us. ;-)

Makiko, I'll try to get a photo of buds and send it to you. It may take me a while, but I'll do it.

I'm glad too, Paz. She is such a shy little thing.

This is one flower I'd LOVE to grow in my garden. Hmmm. Nothing blooming in my Ontario garden right now. :(

Hello Stine,
I must tell you that the cute little bells are the best part of this shrub. The foliage is nothing to write home about, at least not here in my marine-influence garden. Maybe it grows more lushly further inland.
Best of luck if you do decide to grow it. I've been told and have read that it can make a nice hedge.
