To me the turning of the year means that spring and summer are not far off; the sun will eventually shine, the ground will warm, new shoots will spring from where the old died, vegetables will be planted in the greenhouse and garden, snakes will come out of hibernation, honey bees will strip the red poppies of their pollen, the swallows will return, frogs will sing their joyous chorus to the heavens, the farmers market will open, people will come out of wood smoke-filled houses, lift their faces to the warming sun, and smile. Surely a cause for celebration.
I wish for whatever makes you smile in your new year.

Happy New year, Paz!
Happy New Year! I love your chickens. Our neighbors had about a dozen or so until the fox and coyote found them. They would come into our yard and peck at the corn under the deer feeders. We enjoyed them and miss them. If only the neighbors had built a nice pen to stay secure during the night. ARgggggg....
And a very Happy New Year to you Christine. May each new year be better than the last!
Skeeter, I waited 8 years to have chickens again after racoons and foxes got our small flock - I was that traumatized. Last summer we built a new coop that is practically bomb-proof. No bears, racoons, foxes, weasels, or other critters that creep stealthily in the night can get in. One day soon I'll put some photos up.
Thank you so much, Tina. Happy gardening!
