Summer In The Garden #10 - Soft Pink Japanese Anemone

Today is officially the last day of summer. Fall begins tomorrow with all its attendant colors, weather, golden light, olfactory delights, and various migrating species. It's my favorite season of the year. A time to put outdoorsy things to bed, as it were. A time when the setting sun and chill in the air drives us indoors far earlier than we would like. A time to bring out the soups and stews pot.

It takes me a while to adapt to this particular change in seasons. I love long summer days that allow gardening until 10 o'clock at night. And I will sit rather defiantly on the back deck now, wrapped in a warm jacket, watching the last of the swallows flit about before they take off for ports south, and the bats come out to play. (If I'm still, those bats will fly just over the top of my head which I find thrilling.

So I'm offering a photo that was taken in the evening with the very last of the sun's rays kissing the soft pink petals. I'd forgotten to take the flash mode off and so of course it went off, giving this beautiful effect.
