Scotch Broom, or Cytisus scoparius, is a noxious weed in Humboldt and Del Norte counties, crowding out native grasses and wildlife habitat.
There were lots of broom plants on our property when we bought it 15 years ago and now, with hard work and diligence, only a few pop up now and then.
Like this one.
The shrub is easily 4 feet tall but I didn't see it growing amongst the huckleberry bushes until the other day when it seemed to blossom overnight.
It's a pretty thing in full bloom, I must admit, but I'm headed out with a spade and loppers right now.

It's still pretty even though it is a weed.

It is pretty. Too bad you had to get rid of it.
