First Blooms of Early Spring: White Violet

I am happy to report that we've been enjoying beautiful sunshine for a several days and, along with it, a few  early spring flowers are beginning to bloom, bringing me out of my winter cave and lifting my spirits, which were in sore need of lifting. How can one scowl and frown when confronted with such sweet delicate beauty?

And if you walk slowly and stand just so, a fleeting-but-heady whiff of violet perfume can be yours.

Another Beautiful December Sunset

Walks on the beach have been fruitful lately.  We've had really low tides, exposing rocks often not seen, and sunsets that flash brilliant with gold just before setting beyond the horizon.

The Orb Weavers Are Back

It's been far too many years since I've seen orb weavers in my garden.

I've been afraid they might not ever return.

This morning I was happily surprised to find this huge dew-laden web glistening in the morning sun.

Then I encountered not one, but two actual spiders merrily wrapping up breakfast and mending their webs.

Quite a cause for celebration.

And very well-timed for Hallowe'en.

Flamingos: Hallowe'en is Approaching, Get Your Orange and Black On!

Mr CC and I took our 2-year old grandson to the Sacramento Zoo last week.  I hadn't been there in more than 25 years but grandson Jackson has been there a lot in his 2 years and knew where everyone was.

He took us to see the orangutans, the zebras, the giraffes, the train, the carousel, and these stunning, napping flamingos.

I was very impressed.

The sunset tonight was quite spectacular.  Especially so after a virtually cloudless day.  The clouds showed up just before sunset, lighting the sky on fire with reflective setting sunlight.
