Peachy-Pinky-Apricot Azaleas

I've been remiss in showing off my prized azaleas. More photos coming.

Ever Watchful

I didn't see this one until I almost put my nose on it while smelling the rose. It saw me however and was waiting to pounce.

Iris

Exquisitely feminine, I can hardly wait for this beauty to bloom each spring. This is the first in a series of photos I'll be posting of Iris.

Spring Azaleas

Soft, sensuous, and delicate, these Azaleas are particular favorites of mine. Photo taken in Arcata just across the walking path from the Dogwoods.

I do love it so when they hold still enough for me to get a shot like this.

Pretty Will Get You Nowhere

Scotch Broom, or Cytisus scoparius, is a noxious weed in Humboldt and Del Norte counties, crowding out native grasses and wildlife habitat.

There were lots of broom plants on our property when we bought it 15 years ago and now, with hard work and diligence, only a few pop up now and then.

Like this one.

The shrub is easily 4 feet tall but I didn't see it growing amongst the huckleberry bushes until the other day when it seemed to blossom overnight.

It's a pretty thing in full bloom, I must admit, but I'm headed out with a spade and loppers right now.

Ladybird beetle

I've always called them ladybugs but it seems that they're known by other names as well. For such a small critter, there's an awful lot written about them.

Happy First Of May!

A little dog-eared by snails, this is one of my favorite violas. It's called Etienne and it's ever so slightly scented, a rarity among its kind.

And these little beauties are dwarf snapdragons.

In my garden, the Etienne and the snaps co-habitate quite nicely.
